Quick Biology Overview

FeatherLights are born as eggs and hatch after an incubation period of about 21 days.
1 egg is the average birth rate per season.
FeatherLights come as Male/Female but just like humans, but can identify as they please. They are sentient beings and may express their sovereignty in any way they see fit.
FeatherLights are 6ft (1.8m) tall on average and enjoy climates similar to what human can endure.
Slightly stronger than your average human (but not by much), they do posses slightly higher intelligence.
Living more in tune with nature, their planet is rich with fora and fauna.

Blood

Blood can only be Red or Green and is carbon based.
Green is a RESTRICTED mutation

Plumage & Flesh Colors

There are no real restrictions to colors!
Colors tend to stick to certain “classes” but that is all “in-world” lore

Do avoid obnoxious neon designs or anything insanely busy however, anything too gaudy will not be accepted.

Traits

Bio-luminescence: Feathers & Fur

Parts of the coat may glow faintly in the absence of light.
The light color can differ from the markings in daylight.
Bio-luminescence will never make up more that 40% of a coat however.

Metallic: Feathers & Fur

Parts of the coat may exhibit metallic properties.
Metallic does in fact differ from iridescence. The metallic can take the form of any solid state metal
The metal can be pure or an alloy.
In extremely rare instances this can resemble oil on water (think rainbow pins)
Metallic will generally line the edges of markings, but can come in the form of spots or stripes as well.
Metallic will never make up more that 40% of a coat however.

Oxidization: Feathers & Fur

This is a sister trait that can only happen on Featherlights with metallic, and only on the metallic parts. The oxidization color corresponds to the metal type (copper=green , steel=rust/brown, etc.)

Iridescence: Feathers

Only parts of the feathers may exhibit iridescence. This can encompass anywhere from 1-3 colors NOT including the base color.
Base color must be a darker color and is often just black

Shimmering: Feathers & Fur

Common among Featherlights who swim. Shimmering coats often flash white in bright light. Think "slick".

Sparkle: Feathers & Fur

Sparkle is almost like a type of dandruff, where the skin produces a glittering dust

Keratin Spines (or Quills): Feathers

Not to be confused with “pin feathers” or growing feathers (dusty white)
Quills can come in solid or banded coloration, and in almost any length.
Quills can only form where feathers would.

Horns

Horns can only be found on the head or spine of a FeatherLight.
This does include the tail.

Seasonal Plumage

Feather color/shape/size can be seasonal and change 1-4 xs a year.
Feathers that are seasonal will molt (not all at once) but little bits at a time like real birds.
This shows with the occasional white spine looking “pin feather”.

Fur on the other hand is more of a magical attribute when it comes to changing with the seasons.
Fur can simply change color 1-4 xs a year along with the feathers, but will not change length or show any signs of regrowth.

Chick Plumage

Baby FeatherLights or “chicks” will most often hatch with very bland colors showing almost no signs of flashy traits (i.g. metallic, bio-lum, iridescence)
Chick plumage will often be a dull color with some darker spotting/vertical stripes.
