From the finished plush I used cling wrap and duct tape to pull a pattern for his space suit.
I patterned it in 2 parts, the top or “shirt” and the bottom or “pants”.
I started by making all of the arm sleeves.
Using a thin sleeve fabric to make the cuffs.
My fabric choices were picked for color, stretch and it’s thinness. I need to me able to have it stretch over the plush, be thick enough to not be see through, but be thin enough to behave well once sewn (thick seams are not desirable on such a small garment)
Next I worked on the back panel and made the spine hole.
I offset the zipper on the back to allow for the spine hole to be unimpeded for ascetic and functional reasons.
From here I finished the “shirt” and installed the “invisible” zipper.
Next I made the “butt” panel and created the tail hole in the same way I made the spines hole.
The process goes, place a solid piece of fabric over the “butt” panel.
Sew up the hole. Cut out the hole and make some relief cuts in the seam allowance.
Flip it and carefully cut the edges to allow enough fabric to flip the edges again.
Sew that down and you are done!
This part went by so quickly that I didn’t document a lot of it.
I made the pant legs the same way I did the arms sleeves and then attached them.
Then the pants were attached to the shirt.
You can see the zipper line here. I intend to paint the zipper pull black to hide it better. +24 pieces for the suit so far.
