About the Project

I have loved Stitch ever since the movie came out in 2002. I remember going to the theater twice as a kid, once on my parent’s money and the second time with free tickets I got for winning a Halloween contest.
His 4 armed form spoke to me the most design wise and personality wise. He was portrayed as a chaotic gremlin and that really spoke to my little kid self. His little red space suit was really the cherry on top! I feel it made his overall design just POP!

I have made a Stitch plush before but I knew that one day I would strive to make an even better plush of him. I didn’t know I would go for “life sized”, poseable ears/antennae, full mouth details, or use the materials I did, but I knew I wanted him in a neutral pose with floppy arms and all of his alien bits.

After making my “vintage style” Raikou plush I knew that I wanted to use a similar fur type however finding the right colors was quite the ordeal.
I ordered way to many shades of blue/green/teal but eventually found the perfect dusty blue for his main color. The teal I wish was darker in color but slightly less saturated, and the dark blue mmmm less green, BUT I had to settle for those 3 in the end.

It was a matter of matching the model and finding a dark blue that was distinct enough to look like his back markings BUT close enough to his main body color that his spines wouldn’t appear too out of place. What I mean by this is that if you look at Stitch in his red suit in the movie, his spines are the same color as his body, BUT if you see him with no suit on, his spines are the color of his back markings! I was forced to go with the back marking color but I feel his spines being the main body color was a lot more appealing? So I had to split the difference in a way. Did the best I could with what I could get a hold of :)

Below I share with you my journey creating this monstrosity!

I will not sell him and I will not make another one!
I do not own the IP, it is extremely complex and I just do not want to.
Please stop asking.

I started with a concept drawing that I drew using screen shots from the movie. I tried to average out his proportions based solely off of this reference source.
I did trace his head from a scene where his is in the dog shelter. As you can see his ear tips are a tad too pointy, this will come into play later.

These were just color grabs to try and match fabrics too.

Once I got serious about starting the project I picked a size I felt was appropriate (no I did not measure or anything so he may be smaller or larger than what he should be in “real life” but it felt good enough!)
Each grid box represents a A4 piece of paper.
This allowed me to to tape 7 pieces of paper together (the last one cut in half for the bottom) and use a projector to draw this guide on said paper.
